Development Chenango Corporation announced Friday that repayments on their loan to Chobani will go into a new low interest loan fund to help dairy farmers afford important upgrades to their farms.

DCC director Jennifer Tavares explained the fund Friday at a luncheon at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich.

Guest speaker Hamdi Ulakaya, president and CEO of Chobani, told the gathering the value of entrepreneurship

Since 2005, Chobani has grown from five employees to over a thousand.

Two People Killed in Greene Motorcycle Accident

The Chenango County sheriff’s office investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident Sunday evening in Greene.

Two people that were on a motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the motorcycle passengers are being withheld until notification is made with the families.

The sheriff’s office reports that the accident occurred when Judi Kenyon made a left hand turn in her car from State Highway 12 on County Route 3A, and she allegedly turned in front of the motorcycle travelling southbound on State Highway 12.

Kenyon was transported to Lourdes Hospital by the Greene emergency squad.

Gelber Arrested for Allegedly Inappropriately Touching Co-workers

The Otsego County sheriff’s office arrested a 32-year-old Cobleskill man earlier this week for allegedly inappropriately touching two former co-workers at his town of Springfield place of employment in February and March of this year.

The sheriff’s office received the complaint in April and after an investigation obtained a warrant of arrest for Justin Gelber. Gelber, a Level 3 registered sex offender was arraigned and will reappear Thursday in Springfield court.

Seward Remarks on Legislative Session

Senator James Seward says for the second consecutive year a budget was passed that kept spending in check, rejected new taxes and fees, and funded the reconstruction of upstate roads and bridges.

Seward says the session’s accomplishments will lead to a better functioning state, a more promising business climate and an improved environment to live in.

Otsego County Prepares Development Grant

Otsego County and Otsego Rural Housing Assistance are preparing a Community Development Block Grant application for housing projects.

If awarded, this grant will be used for rehabilitation of qualifying mobile and manufactured homes. Two public information meetings about the project are scheduled for Wednesday -- one in Cooperstown and one in Unadilla.

For anyone who wants to learn more about the grant program, or to propose a mobile or manufactured home rehabilitation project there are two meetings Wednesday. They are from 11 a.m.-noon at the Meadows Office Complex in Cooperstown and at the Unadilla Town Hall on state Route 7.

Oneonta Post 259 swept a doubleheader against Ilion, 15-1 and 17-7, on Sunday. Sean Getman collected eight hits and five RBIs.

The Oneonta Outlaws edged Elmira, 5-3, at Damaschke Field, and Glens Falls defeated Cooperstown 11-3.

The Oneonta City Stallions thumped Watertown, 35-12, on Saturday at Hartwick College.
