Dec. 7 Central NY Tri-County Central NY Coronavirus Update
Coronavirus cases continue to steadily rise in Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties.
The Otsego County Department of Health (OCDH) released their COVID-19 report yesterday, stating that between Saturday and Sunday, there were were 36 new cases confirmed in the county. County health officials announced a potential COVID-19 exposure occurred at the American Legion on Main Street in Cooperstown. If you spent time at the legion from November 25th through November 30th you should monitor yourself for symptoms. County-wide, there are currently 109 active cases with 9 hospitalizations. Health officials continue to be very concerned with the significant daily rise in cases. Of the 1418 total confirmed cases (since last March), 767 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta (according to the OCDH) and 71 are associated with Hartwick College.
In Delaware County, Delaware County Public Health reported Sunday (12/6) that there are now 87 known active cases in the county following 13 additional confirmed cases yesterday. There are currently 5 people hospitalized with COVID-19 complications. The number of county residents under mandatory quarantine is at 246. The county's health officials says that multiple new cases yesterday and during the previous week are linked to “living room spread” from Thanksgiving dinners and gatherings. The dept. advises area residents to reduce risk of exposure to COVID-19 by avoiding small and large gatherings, wearing a mask, washing your hands and maintaining social distancing. If you are sick stay home, even with mild symptoms.
In Chenango County, according to the Chenango County Health Department, as of 12/4/20, there were 55 active COVID-19 cases in the county with 4 related hospitalizations, 297 and are in mandatory quarantine. The total confirmed cases for Chenango County (since March) is at 665.
Chenango County health officials are also reporting that pending approval, The New York State Health Department will release 170,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on December 15th. These doses would go to healthcare workers and nursing home residents and staff. It has not yet been determined what counties or facilities will receive these initial doses.
