Last night, my husband went to see "Lincoln", starring Daniel Day Lewis at the movies.  It's a movie I've been wanting to see as well and was of course curious as to what he would say about it.  When I asked him what he thought, he told me it was the best acting he'd ever seen in a movie.  Now that's quite a bold statement coming from someone with discriminating taste.

I'm a big Daniel Day Lewis fan and have seen several of his movies so it wasn't a big shocker statement to me but I do think there are actors and actresses who are as good, so I immediately challenged his statement by asking why he felt that way.  He replied that it had to do with how completely believable Daniel Day Lewis was as Abe Lincoln, a job not easy to do considering most people have a preconceived idea of what Lincoln looks and talks like.  Could it be the acting achievement of a lifetime for Lewis?  I don't know but it sure seems inevitable that an Oscar nomination will come his way for this role.

I was able to think of another actor that embodied the famous character he had to play.  After seeing "The Doors" (1991) starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison, the group's lead singer and composer, I was blown away by his portrayal.  Can you think of any other actors or actresses that embodied the famous historic character they had to portray on film?
