The annual Schenevus Fireman's Carnival will take place this Thursday through Saturday, offering free admission and parking. Described as "great fun for the whole family" by the organizers, the carnival promises an array of games, rides, food, prizes, and live music each day. This is the carnival's 75th year.

Saturday is the final day of the event, beginning with an auction at 11:00 a.m. and a chicken barbecue starting at noon. The festivities continue with a parade at 6:00 p.m., followed by a performance by Off the Record from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. There will be fireworks and Ferris wheel rides too!

A highlight of the carnival is the antique carousel merry-go-round, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been a cherished feature and draw to the hamlet of Schenevus for many years.

If you've never seen or ridden the carousel, it's definitely worth the trip out to Schenevus. Preserved in all of its classic glory, there are very few of these kinds of carousels left fully intact in its original form.

The Schenevus Fireman's Carnival began in 1948 when the local Volunteer Fire Department borrowed a carousel from Cooperstown. The goal was to raise enough money to purchase essential fire equipment, including a new fire truck.

Those in charge of the carnival note that the event raises significant funds, helping the department save the public a considerable amount in tax dollars. The carnival is held at Borst Field, Schenevus.

Overall, the Schenevus Fireman's Carnival is more than just an event; it is a celebration of community, tradition, and the invaluable service of local firefighters.
