Dan Buttermann (D-Oneonta) made his official announcement yesterday to run for the 121st Assembly District seat.  According to a press release, Buttermann says, “I am deeply concerned about the future of our district, state and country. I fear that failure to invest in the future of our economy today means that our next generation of Upstate New Yorkers will find it harder and harder to stay.”

Buttermann is an assistant casualty manager at NYCM in Edmeston, is on the Oneonta school board, and also sits as a board member with Opportunities for Otsego, the Oneonta Concert Association, and has organized all TEDx events in Oneonta.

In addition, Buttermann has served on the Oneonta Planning Board; is a member of the Oneonta Rotary Club, NAACP and Farm Bureau; performs clarinet regularly with the Oneonta Community Concert Band and the Catskill Symphony Orchestra; and teaches courses on negotiation and organizational behavior at Hartwick College. He was named one of “20 under 40” by the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce in 2015.

According to AllOTSEGO, Buttermann plans to challenge Assemblyman John Salka, R-Brookfield, although Buttermann may first need to face a Democratic primary next June. The 121st includes the bulk of Otsego County, including Oneonta and Cooperstown, all of Madison County and part of Oneida.  The 2020 election will be Nov. 3.
