Bassett Research Institute Seeking Caregivers for ‘The Caregiver Project’
If you or someone you know has ever had to be a caregiver for a loved one with memory loss, then you have a pretty good idea of how hard, stressful, and isolating that can be, not to mention heartbreaking. Easing some of that stress is essential to the caregiver's health and well-being and with that in mind, the Bassett Research Institute is partnering with the University of California in San Francisco for a study called The Caregiver Project, with the goal of providing people in rural settings like ours, who are caregivers of loved ones with memory loss, the resources they need for self-care and stress management.
With The Caregiver Project, caregivers will get free help with setting goals, problem solving, reducing stress, and maintaining their own health and well-being. Free materials will be provided along with coaching and encouragement from a trained peer advocate.
Bassett is looking for study participants and promises that the program is very flexible to fits participants' schedules. The basic commitment to the study involves about 10 to 30 minutes twice a week for six weeks and those in the study can engage with their peer leader or other participants as often as they wish.
