It's official: Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown has named their new Chief of Medicine following a nationwide search – Dr. Kai Mebust, an internist.  According to AllOTSEGO, Mebust, who has been with Bassett for 16 years, had already been on the job as Chief on an interim basis. He follows up Dr. Charles Hyman, who stepped down after 10 years in that position.

Over the last ten years, Dr. Mebust has been serving in the role as Chief of Bassett’s hospitalist division and for four years as medical director of Bassett’s network hospitalist program. Mebust had also been Associate Chief to Dr. Hyman since March of last year while the search for a new physician-in-chief was going on.

Dr. Mebust will continue to see patients at Bassett in Cooperstown, despite the addition of new new position.
