Bassett Cancer Program Achieves New Accreditation

The Bassett Healthcare Network Cancer Institute has earned national accreditation for its radiation oncology program. It is the first in New York state to earn ASTRO APEx accreditation where it demonstrated compliance with 16 evidence-based standards of radiation oncology practice. Only a small percentage of cancer centers in the U.S. have earned this accreditation. Completing the ASTRO APEx accreditation program is voluntary and can take up to a year.

Chief and Medical Director of the Bassett Cancer Institute, Dr. Alfred Tinger says, “This was a rigorous process to undertake and is a testament to the incredible commitment of the team in the cancer center to providing a higher standard of care to our patients. This particular accreditation program focuses on the process of care, safety, quality management, and patient-centered care. Achieving this honor provides our patients with additional confidence that they will receive the highest level of care possible.”
