Halloween season is officially upon us, and as usual, the most wonderful time of the year (don’t @ me) brings with it a veritable variety pack of tricks and treats. Treats: Scary movies, fun makeup, awkward parties, so much candy! Tricks: Terrible costumes, ranging from “Sexy Handmaid’s Tale” (no really, someone tried to make that happen) to this abomination inspired by horror movie classic Child’s Play, courtesy of Target.

Burt Reynolds, the iconic mustachioed star of classics ranging from Smokey and the Bandit to Boogie Nights, has passed away at the age of 82. The actor died early Thursday at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, as confirmed by his manager. No cause of death has been given at this time.

Though it was initially planned to make its debut at the upcoming 2019 ceremony, the Academy has decided to place the category on “hold” for the time being.

Guy Pearce, who stars in the upcoming Netflix series ‘The Innocents,’ says that the company doesn’t want its actors using the phrase “binge-watching” — even though their website still features “binge-worthy TV” recommendations.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences set a new benchmark in questionable choices today, when they announced the addition of a new Oscar for “Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film,” aka “Most Popular Movie But Not Necessarily Worth a Best Picture Nod.” Almost immediately following the announcement, some cinephiles and critics pointed out that the move was obviously designed to allow beloved blockbusters and superhero flicks — like this year’s Black Panther — to receive recognition from an awards show that typically overlooks them.

The cast of Roseanne will return to televisions this fall — without Roseanne Barr — in The Conners. The spinoff, which features the remaining members of the iconic sitcom family, will officially premiere on Tuesday, October 16 — almost a month after ABC debuts its other fall programming. In addition to The Conners, the network has set fall premiere dates for several other new and returning shows, including The Good Doctor and Grey’s Anatomy.

How does MoviePass still exist at this point? The company, which offers customers the ability to see one movie per day for the too-good-to-be-true price of $9.99 per month, has rapidly morphed into a case study in mystifying capitalism. Despite its consistently declining stock value, and the fact that the company spends far more than it brings in, MoviePass continues to operate — but for how much longer?

Seems that Lucasfilm is reassessing its priorities following the underwhelming debut of Solo: A Star Wars Story. The studio has now released two spinoffs that have failed to dazzle audiences, and while neither movie is outright horrible, they aren’t exactly memorable, either. According to a new report, Lucasfilm has decided to put its future Star Wars spinoffs on hold for the time being while they focus on the franchise’s meat and potatoes.

At the very least, it has to be better than ‘Red, White and Blonde,’ right? Right?!

As with the previous Star Wars Story, reactions to Solo are pretty…unenthusiastic…leading many fans and critics to ponder if Lucasfilm should even continue with this whole spinoff thing. Seemingly sensing a disturbance in the Force, Lucasfilm is doing their best to restore balance by hiring James Mangold to direct a Boba Fett spinoff.
