7 More Otsego County COVID-19 Cases Thursday

The Otsego County Department of Health is investigating 7 new cases of coronavirus yesterday. On Wednesday, five infected SUNY Oneonta students who live off-campus were reported with 4 cases of high school students. Of the new 7 confirmed cases, 6 are SUNY Oneonta students and one is a high school student. Health officials says there is no link between the confirmed college student and high school student cases.

Commenting on the additional college student cases in a SUNY Oneonta press release, whereby all are off-campus residents, SUNY Oneonta President Barbara Jean Morris says, “As the college learns of situations that may compromise the health of our campus or the greater Oneonta community, we will act swiftly to hold individuals and organizations accountable. Our Office of Community Standards has opened investigations regarding reports of social gatherings alleged to have violated City of Oneonta ordinances or college policies. The college will take disciplinary action against any student or student organization that violates the student code of conduct.”

With the new additional confirmed cases, the total of active cases in the county is now at 21 with no related hospitalizations.

With cases on the rise, the county is reminding residents of the CDC recommendations for slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
