Attorney general Eric Schniederman announced Thursday 12 more enforcement actions against post Hurricane Sandy price gouging.

Twelve gas station operators in the affected areas hit hard by Sandy will be held responsible for a dramatic price increase in gasoline. There is now a total of 25 gas retailers who were caught after citizen complaints.

The gas station operators were charging anywhere from $4.65 a gallon to a gas station in the Bronx that charged $10 a gallon.

New York State’s price gouging law prohibits merchants from charging an excessive price for essential goods and services like food, water, gas, generators, batteries and flashlights during an emergency situation.
