Following a joint investigation involving the Oneonta Police Department and New York State Police, The SUNY Oneonta University Police Department has taken into custody a suspect in connection with Saturday's threatening YikYak message.  SUNY Oneonta president Nancy Kleniewski issued a statement saying that while the investigation will continue, UPD is confident that the message, which was reported to mention shooting Monday, does not present a threat.

The City of Oneonta School Superintendent also had an encouraging message for families of students. Joseph Yelich said he has been in constant contact with authorities and say the police departments are confident that the schools are in no present danger and Oneonta will be open and operate as scheduled.
