In New York, there are laws about what is and what isn't allowed to be thrown on a bonfire. These seven things cannot be burned in New York.

After the local fire department brought the flames under control, the property owner was fined.

The reason for the ban is due to the heightened chance of brush and grass fires.

Since 2009, the state has enacted a restriction on residential brush burns for two months each spring, mid-March through mid-May...

In an effort to help prevent wildfires and pollution, the New York statewide burn ban will begin next Tuesday. It will start on March 16th and run through May 14, 2021. The Department of Environmental Conservation says this annual ban has helped decrease the number of spring wildfires that occur by forty-three percent since it began back in 2009.

The burn ban is now in affect.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton is cautioning that warmer, dry weather is again heightening the danger of wildfires in the Twin Tiers.

Now that it's officially spring, we're starting to get a small glimpse of warm weather here and there in Central New York and along with that is outdoor grilling and and sitting around the backyard fire pit on a warmer evening...or can we?
