State lawmakers have ended their work for the year. The Senate has tweeted that barring a call for a special session, it returns to work in January. Meanwhile, an ethics reform bill awaits the governor’s signature. Lawmakers have passed this legislation in an attempt to reduce corruption. One main provision would prevent convicted politicians from collecting pensions. WRGB-TV in Albany reports while lawmakers believe this can reduce corruption among civil servants, the public does not appear to agree.
The State Legislature has also given final approval to legislation that would legalize online daily fantasy sports betting, months after the state’s top prosecutor took legal action in an attempt to bar two of the industry’s titans from taking bets in this state. The legislation now heads to the Governor.
