A record breaking turnout gathered in SUNY Oneonta’s Alumni Field House last Saturday for the annual Relay for Life event. A total of 1,500 people, both college students and community members, gathered together to raise $58,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Both SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College clubs against cancer organizations organized the event that ran from 6 p.m. Friday to Saturday. The whole event was jam packed with different activities.

The event's theme this year was Olympics. Each team that participated was given a country to represent. The different teams dressed to match their respected country and carried around their flags.

The event was kicked off with an opening ceremony, mimicking the one that takes place at the Olympics. Every team was entertained with games, dancing, music, performances from dance teams, and an acoustic set by a former Oneonta student.

Every club involved in the fundraiser had tables set up throughout the gym. There were different activities each team could participate in at different tables. All proceeds from the fundraising tables went directly to the American Cancer Society.

The event was truly a success and an inspiration to never give up the fight against cancer.
