Push is On to Raise NYS Minimum Wage

Supporters of a higher minimum wage want New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to push the issue in a lame-duck legislative session before Republicans take control of the state Senate next year. Proposals to boost the wage to $10.10 an hour and allow New York City to raise it even higher will face significant opposition next year following big GOP victories in last week's elections. Cuomo has vowed to support a wage increase and liberal activists say a special session this fall may be his best opportunity to make good on the promise. The Democratic governor says he doesn't expect lawmakers to convene before January. Meanwhile, a state board is considering whether to raise the minimum wage for servers and other tipped workers. The panel meets Thursday in Buffalo.
