Do you have good home security sense?  Now that the weather is warm, The Oneonta Police Department has sent out a warning to residents to be on the alert for people who want to steal your stuff!

What does OPD suggest you do to prevent being a theft victim?  Thieves love easy targets so don't make it easy for them.

  • Don't leave your property outside, laying out for someone to swipe.  Believe it or not, easy-to-move outdoor decore is a target so make sure those items are secure or anything else on your property you think thieves might target.
  • Make sure your parked vehicle windows and doors are locked.
  • Keep your valuables in your home out of sight.
  • Make sure your home's windows and doors are locked when you're not home and at night.

And adding to that, my husband and I make sure to tell a neighbor when we go away on vacation to keep an eye on our property and notice any unusual activity.  Neighbors are an invaluable resource to keep property safe!

Rest assured that Oneonta police officers will be patrolling neighborhoods throughout the season but they can always use help from citizens who spot suspicious activity.  If you do, please call OPD at (607) 432-1111.
