Obama Signs Baseball Hall of Fame Coin Act into Law

President Barack Obama signed into law Friday the National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act, culminating a bi-partisan initiative, spearheaded by U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Congressman Richard Hanna.

This bi-partisan team secured the passage of The National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act with the support of every member of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act will celebrate and honor the 75th anniversary of the Hall of Fame in 2014, directing the Secretary of the Treasury to mint not more than 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins and 750,000 half dollar coins in recognition of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum during a one-year period commencing on January 1, 2014.

Surcharges from the sale of these coins, as much as $9.5 million will be paid to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum to assist in financing its operations. This measure is in compliance with the Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2010 and results in no cost to the U.S. Treasury or U.S. taxpayer.
