The New York State Police Superintendent has promoted Captain James Barnes to the rank of Major and has assigned him to the position of Troop Commander at Troop C Headquarters in Sidney. Major Barnes started his career in 1989 as a trooper and was first assigned to Troop C. In 1996 he was promoted to Sergeant and then in 1997 Station Commander. In 1999 Barnes became an Investigator for the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. In 2000 Barnes was promoted to Lieutenant. His most recent assignment was in 2009 when he was promoted to Captain in the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and assigned to Troop C Headquarters in Sidney. Major Barnes command covers seven counties including Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga, and Tompkins.
