New Year's Day hikes are planned at 38 state parks and historic sites across New York on Friday, January 1st. Programs include a snowshoe waterfall hike, pet-friendly treks, crossing one of the world's longest pedestrian bridges, history tours, and walks through winter woodlands. Many hikes offer refreshments. Last year, more than 2,100 participants joined in the First Day Hikes.

One local hike that is planned will take place at Betty & Wilbur David Park, Sunset Pavilion, 133 Davis Road in Westford at 1pm on January 1st.  This hike will be guided by Becky Gretton and Joe Ritton.  Wear hiking boots or snowshoes, depending on weather conditions.  A bonfire and warm drinks will be provided.  For more information about that hike call (607) 638-5421 or go to www.friendsofglimmerglass.com.
