The Federal Environmental Protection Agency has issued guidelines calling for no more than 70 parts per trillion for lifetime exposure to PFOAs, the manufacturing by-product and toxin which triggered the environmental health crisis in the Hoosick Falls water system. State Officials in New York, New Hampshire and Vermont say they have waited for federal guidance on the proper level and are happy with the recommendations. Governor Cuomo, earlier this year joined New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan and Vermont governor Peter Shumlin in calling on the federal EPA to acknowledge that the problem is a national one not local and regional.
