We may get wiser as we age but our bodies are traveling in the opposite direction, taking longer and longer to heal as the years go by.  That's why I found myself heading to an acupuncturist  this week.  I had been battling back and knee pain for a while and was not getting anywhere with all the traditional methods to fix those problems.

According to Medicinenet.com, acupuncture is Chinese in it's origin, dating back at least 2500 years.  Acupuncture is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy flow (Qi) through the body that are essential for health. When that flow of energy gets disrupted, then disease occurs.  Acupuncture may, correct imbalances of flow at identifiable points close to the skin.

So getting back to my story, I was simply looking to restore balance in my body, therefore, relieving symptoms of pain.  Now I will tell you that I'm not a fan of needles but I was willing to try this if it meant no more pain.  The doctor inserts very thin needles in certain points on the body where the so-called energy channel for the problem area is.  If you can handle a tiny pin prick, then you can handle this.  Much to my delight, I received symptom relief in my back and knees immediately!  I was amazed!  Is this going to be a long term fix for me?  I can't say because I'm still seeing my acupuncturist for further treatments but hey, if the NFL uses this medicine on its players, I figured it was worth a shot, or should I say, a few needles?
