In a tragic twist of fate, Alfred Turshman, the 81-year old Chenango County man who went missing last week, was found alive on Saturday and rescued from the woods near his Town of German home.  Unfortunately, Turshman died shortly after his rescue according to his grand-daughter, Danielle Turshman Raymond.

She wrote on her Facebook page:

"As many may have heard, Our Papa, Alfred Turshman passed away last night around 10:00. Being lost out in the woods for EIGHT days at 81 years old was quite an amazing feat. It must have just been to much for him. But, thank God, and thankfully for Papa's strong will he hung on until being found, and brought home to us. That speaks highly of who our grandfather was. We were all given the ability to see him, touch him, and tell him how proud we are of him, and of course, HOW MUCH WE LOVE HIM.   And, again, we can't thank the community and volunteers enough. If he hadn't made it home in time, it would have been so much harder on the family. You all gave us our one last chance with him. We will never be able to say thank you enough."
