Jury Duty Calls On Me
Have you ever been called to serve jury duty? I just recently received my second notice ever. The first time, I showed up to court and my juror number was never called, so that was the end of that for me. I must admit, it was both a relief and a disappointment.
I was relieved to not have to deal with the inconvenience of missing work and trying to figure out how I was going to financially afford to serve, considering that the money a juror receives for serving doesn't come close to making up for lost wages while serving. It was a mixed bag of emotions for sure. I did want to serve, as it is my civic duty and I was also intrigued by what I would face as a juror. Would it be as dramatic as television shows depict? Probably not, but who knew? It depended on the case involved.
All this curiosity came back when I received my recent summons. Will my number be called? If so, how many days will it entail? I have no idea. All I know is, it's a chance to learn something interesting about our court system from the insider view and I know that it's an opportunity many have not yet received. Have you?
