‘Jimi Hendrix: The Ultimate Lyric Book’ Announced

The family-operated company that controls the late Jimi Hendrix‘s music and image is releasing a 304-page hardcover book featuring photos and the handwritten lyrics from the legendary guitarist. According to the publisher Backbeat Books, the book will be released on Nov. 13.

The book description points to Bob Dylan‘s influence on Hendrix, whose lyrics are often forgotten in conversations about his guitar playing. In addition to well-known songs penned by Hendrix, one will find unpublished songs from the posthumous release ‘Valley of Neptune’ and other sources.

The book was compiled by Hendrix’s sister Janie L. Hendrix, who is the CEO of the family-run company. “When I was a child, I was always fascinated by my brother Jimi’s handwriting,” she said, according to Blabbermouth. “I remember the feeling of being captivated the first time I saw his handwritten lyrics, thinking how beautiful, how complicated both the writing and the words were on paper. Even now they offer such an insight into who my brother was and is.”

Much of the never before seen material is handwritten, often very casually on items like hotel stationary. Along with the photos, the $40 book should be extraordinarily personal.
