If you have kids, chances are that at one point or another, you've been asked for any assorted array of pets: dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, fish, guinea pigs, and perhaps even a lizard of some sort.  There are quite a few of those and if you ask me, they are really cool. If you've been considering getting a reptile, then keep reading.

After investigating the possibility of getting a lizard for my kids, I decided against it after finding out a few things: all the lizards I investigated live for a very long time - much longer than I had bargained for, and unfortunately people (especially young children) are at risk of salmonella infection from handling reptiles. This opens up the possibility of your child getting very ill from this bacteria.  So that's why I opted out of the cold-blooded pet choice. We'll stick with our fish and two cats thank you.
