An overflow crowd of 400-plus filled Muller Plaza in downtown Oneonta on Saturday as part of the nationwide "March for Our Lives" event.  This event is a student-driven nationwide rally to raise awareness of gun violence in our schools.  The event was organized by students at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School in Parkland, Florida following a deadly shooting there on Valentines Day, 2018.  Seventeen students were murdered and 17 others were seriously injured in that attack.

Rallies were held on Saturday all over the United States, with millions attending.  Every major city, from Boston to Los Angeles, held a rally of their own with the main rally in Washington, D.C. itself having more than 800,000 in attendance.

Locally, a large group gathered at the Oneonta High School at 10:00 am for speeches and testimonials from school officials and student body members in the Belden Auditorium.  After, a long line of hundreds of marchers snaked around the school's famous "S" curve driveway and marched peacefully to downtown.  The crowd consisted of high school students, college students and local residents.  At Muller Plaza other speeches and presentations took place.
