Halloween is quickly approaching and there are some fun Halloween events in Oneonta on the way, starting this weekend to mark on your calendar for family fun:

The Oneonta Moose Lodge 465 is kicking off Halloween events with a party for kids Friday, October 25th from 6pm to 8pm.  There will be apple dunking, donut on a string, a cake walk, costume contest, pin the stem on the pumpkin and more.  Trick or treat bags will be handed out as well as prizes for games, plus there will be snacks to enjoy.  For more information call the Moose Lodge at (607) 432-6040.

Main Street Oneonta is sponsoring "Light Up the Harvest" pumpkin carving event from 2pm to 7pm with live music in Muller Plaza with the Roundhouse Rockers from 5pm to 7pm.  At about 2:30p, Orpheus Theatre's "Kats" kids' theatre group will perform.  During the afternoon there will be fun activities for kids and all are welcome to register their carved pumpkin (no charge) for a chance to win a wonderful gift basket.  Just choose a downtown business where you want your pumpkin to be in front of.  The merchant who ends up with the most pumpkins will win a prize.  The pumpkin jack-o-lanterns will be lit up providing for a beautiful glow between 6 and 7pm.

If you're looking for a safe, warm environment for trick or treating, the Southside Mall is offering up their "Malloween" event Sunday, October 27th from 11am to 2pm with a costume contest for different age groups during that time.  Register your child up until noon and the contest begins at 12:30pm with children up to 4 years old.  From 1pm to 1:30pm, 5 to 9 year olds' costumes will be judged, and from 1:30pm to 2pm, 10 to 12 year olds' costumes will be judged.  For more information call (607) 432-5478.

Hartwick College is hosting some Halloween fun for the community this year: Halloween Harvest Fest is Sunday, October 27th from 3pm to 5pm at Golisano Hall on the Hartwick campus.  This free event for community families will include activities, games, refreshments, a costume contest, followed by a guided trick or treat tour throughout residence halls.  For more information, contact Boyd at (607) 431-4853.

But wait, there's more! The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club is hosting a Family Halloween Party for kids 12 and under.  Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult.  That takes place on Tuesday, October 29th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at 70 River Street.  For more information call (607) 432-1133.

SUNY Oneonta fraternity and sorority honor society is hosting two Halloween events for kids on October 30th on campus:
Halloween in the Hall Carnival at the Hunt Union from 4:30pm to 6pm with a carnival featuring arts and crafts, a costume contest and more fun for kids.  Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for kids.  All money raised will benefit Opportunities For Otsego.
Halloween in the Halls is a free trick or treating opportunity from 6pm to 8pm for kids in the community.  Children will be guided through residence halls to pick up sweet treats.

ON HALLOWEEN:

There will be safe trick or treating in Downtown Oneonta from 3pm to 6pm on October 31st.  Participating businesses will have the sign below in their windows.

The Halloween parade marches through Downtown Oneonta on October 31st starting at 7pm.  Line-up is on Elm Street between 6:15pm and 6:45pm.  Groups and individuals are welcome to participate.  This is a very fun parade and tons of people dress up in costume for the occasion.  Don't miss out!
