Did you know Prince, the artist formerly known as “The artist formerly known as Prince”, turned 12 today?

It’s true, sort of. After his contract dispute that led him to changing his name to that symbol thing, Prince began releasing albums under that symbol.

“On Dec. 31, 1999, my publishing contract with Warner-Chappel expired, thus emancipating the name I was given before birth — Prince — from all long-term restrictive documents,” he said back in 2000.

So, he came back to regular, old Prince on this day 12 years ago. Since then, he has released 13 albums, including a minor hits with “Musicology” and “3121.” Happy birthday, Prince!
