Governor Andrew Cuomo continues to sign bills passed by the legislature before the session ended in June.

Yesterday he signed into law a bill to better protect teens from infections and blood borne disease by requiring that a minor have written parental permission before obtaining a body piercing.

The bill was passed overwhelmingly by the senate and assembly. And is an important measure to keep young New Yorkers healthy and safe.

Nearly 20 percent of all body piercings result in infection and the risk of contracting hepatitis. The law takes effect in 90 days.
