Chenango & Delaware County Sheriffs Warn Of New Phone Scam

Both the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office have issued phone scam warnings. The caller tells the would-be victim they are a department representative and they demand payment of a civil penalty which needs to be done over the phone by purchasing pre-paid debit cards or else they face legal action. Both departments say they never call people to collect money and to hang up if they get one of these calls. Last week the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office issued a similar warning.
