In the summer, we tend to ignore the school speed zone signs since school is in session however, there's something you should know.  According to the Oneonta Police Department, when I asked the question, "Are school speed zone limits enforced during the summer?" here was the response...

The state law addressing school zones states that the zones are enacted during days schools are in session from 7am to 7pm. However, schools and playgrounds remain gathering places for children during non session times. We ask that drivers exercise caution and slow down whenever in a school zone for everyone’s benefit.

Please note that this law is not universal from state to state.  I have heard of instances where people have gotten tickets during the summer for driving above the school zone speed limit.  Silly right?  At least New York's law makes sense!
